Yes, you can go winter glamping, but only at a stay built and opened for the cold months. In Utah and Montana, that list is short. Every glamping stay near Bryce Canyon, Zion or Glacier that posts a season closes by early November.

Under Canvas Zion has the latest close of any seasonal camp in the table. Its 2026 season runs to November 8, and its 2027 season ends November 7.
This answer would change if a stay near Bryce Canyon, Zion or Glacier posts winter dates. Canvas camps near Bryce Canyon, Zion and Glacier do not fit a winter trip. Plan the glamping nights inside a camp's posted season, or book North Campground or a hotel near Bryce Canyon.
What a Winter Glamping Stay Needs
A glamping stay works in winter when it is heated, has a bathroom close by, has power and can be reached after a storm.
- The heat source. At the Ranch at Rock Creek, the Trapper has in-floor hydronic heat and a gas stove, and Sweet Grass has both gas and wood-burning stoves. Open Sky Zion gives every camp a mini-split for heat and an indoor gas fireplace, with radiant heat under the bathroom tile. Under Canvas tents use wood-burning stoves with firewood, firestarter and matches provided, but Kids Tents have no heating element.
- Where the bathroom is. Under Canvas Deluxe, Stargazer and Suite tents have private ensuite bathrooms, while Safari tents use a shared bathhouse with private stalls. Capitol Reef Resort's teepees and Conestoga wagons have a private bathroom detached from the unit.
- Power in the unit. Under Canvas tents have no electricity or outlets. Battery lanterns with Universal Serial Bus (USB) ports charge phones, and powered batteries for medical devices are available on request.
- Road access after storms. At Bryce Canyon, the Main Road closes beyond Mile 3 after snowstorms, usually for a day or more, until plows clear it. Near Glacier, County Road 486 to Polebridge is infrequently plowed.
Ask Open Sky Zion which months it is open before you plan a winter night there.
Winter Near Bryce Canyon
Bryce Canyon National Park sits at about 8,000 feet, and from October to May, temperatures fall below freezing nearly every night. The coldest and snowiest stretch usually runs December through February.
After a snowstorm, the National Park Service closes the Main Road past Mile 3 while plows clear the higher southern scenic drive. The Bryce Amphitheater overlooks are plowed first and stay reachable during those closures: Bryce, Inspiration, Sunset and Sunrise Points.
North Campground stays open year-round, while Sunset Campground closes from November into April. The Lodge at Bryce Canyon and its dining room close in winter, but lodging is often still available at the Sunset Lodge Unit.
At Dark Light Collection, we are building glass pyramids about 15 minutes from Bryce Canyon, with triple-pane glass heated for snow-melt and a private deck with a fire pit. The pyramids open in 2027, and their opening dates and seasons have not been announced. For trails and snowshoe routes, read the Bryce Canyon in winter guide.
Winter Near Glacier National Park
Glacier National Park is open all year, but most businesses in and near the park close from early October through late May. Lodging inside the park is unavailable in winter. The National Park Service asks winter visitors to plan ahead and be entirely self-sufficient.
Both glamping stays in the table near the West Entrance close before winter. Under Canvas Glacier, about seven miles from the West Entrance, runs May 28 to September 13 in 2027. The Moose Creek glamping pods in West Glacier ended their 2026 season on October 7.
Going-to-the-Sun Road is usually plowed and open from West Glacier to Lake McDonald Lodge, weather permitting, while most other park roads close to vehicles. Past the closure gate, the road often stays open to skiers and snowshoers, and the Lake McDonald Lodge parking lot stays open for winter recreation even with the lodge closed. Winter entrance fees drop to $25 per private vehicle from November 1 to April 30.
Inside the park, winter camping means primitive sites in Loop B of Apgar Campground, first-come, first-served, with a vault toilet and no running water. Full-service grocery stores are in Hungry Horse and Columbia Falls.
Dark Light Collection's Glacier site sits within 15 minutes of the West Entrance and also opens in 2027, with dates not yet announced. Ski routes and road details are in the Glacier National Park in winter guide.
Night Skies on a Winter Trip
Bryce Canyon and Glacier both hold International Dark Sky Park status. Bryce Canyon was certified as an International Dark Sky Park in 2019. Waterton-Glacier International Dark Sky Park received provisional status in 2017 and full certification in 2021, and it is the first transboundary International Dark Sky Park.
At Bryce Canyon, the full moon hike becomes a free snowshoe outing when the snowpack reaches 16 inches, which is possible November to March. The full moon hike page sets these rules:
- Tickets are first-come, first-served, with a $1 processing fee per reservation.
- Ticket holders must check in at the Visitor Center by 3:00 p.m. on the day of the hike.
- Hikes may be canceled for cloudy skies or temperatures below 10°F.
- Children 7 and younger cannot join, and lug-sole boots or shoes are required.
Booking a Winter Glamping Stay
Booking a winter glamping stay comes down to five checks, done in this order:
- Confirm the stay posts winter dates covering your exact nights. Of the stays in the table, only the Ranch at Rock Creek's Trapper and Sweet Grass cabins do.
- Ask what heats the unit: in-floor hydronic heat, a mini-split, a gas stove or a wood stove you feed yourself.
- Find out whether the bathroom is inside the unit, detached from it or in a shared bathhouse.
- Check road access after storms on the Bryce Canyon winter page or the Glacier hours and seasons page before you drive.
- Pack for nights below freezing with layers, traction devices and a charging cable, using our glamping packing list.
If the Ranch at Rock Creek fits your route, open its glamping cabin page and match the Trapper or Sweet Grass to the dates of your winter glamping trip.
Frequently asked questions
Is Under Canvas open in winter?
No. Every Under Canvas camp in Utah and Montana closes by early November: in 2027, Bryce Canyon closes September 27, Glacier closes September 13 and Zion, the latest, closes November 7. The tents have wood-burning stoves, but none of these camps lists winter dates.
Is there winter glamping near Glacier National Park?
Not near the park. Under Canvas Glacier and the Moose Creek glamping pods close for the season. Lodging inside the park is unavailable in winter, and most nearby businesses close from early October through late May. The Ranch at Rock Creek in Philipsburg, Montana, lists two cabin styles open year-round.
What should you pack for winter glamping?
Pack layers, a rain jacket, sturdy hiking shoes and traction devices, which Bryce Canyon recommends throughout the park in winter, especially in parking lots. Bring a charging cable because Under Canvas tents have no outlets, and carry bear spray in Glacier, where bears may still be active. The glamping packing list has the full list.
