The best place to go glamping in Montana depends on the trip. Stay near Glacier's west entrance if the park is the point, near West Yellowstone or Gardiner for Yellowstone, or at a full-service ranch in western Montana if the stay itself is the trip.
Best Places to Go Glamping in Montana
Montana glamping falls into three areas: the Glacier side around West Glacier, the Yellowstone side at West Yellowstone and Gardiner, and the ranch country of western Montana near Missoula and Philipsburg. The table compares each stay on location, type, bathroom and season.
| Stay | Area | Location and distance (as stated) | Stay type | Bathroom | Season |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Under Canvas Glacier | Coram, near West Glacier | About 7 miles from Glacier's west entrance | Canvas tents with wood-burning stoves | Ensuite in Deluxe and Suite; shared bathhouse with private stalls for Safari | May 28 to Sep 13, 2027 |
| Moose Creek RV Resort glamping pods | West Glacier | About 4 miles from Glacier National Park and 2.5 miles from the West Entrance | Glamping pods at an RV resort | Private bathroom in each pod | 2026 season ran May 1 to Oct 7; next season: check with the stay |
| Under Canvas West Yellowstone | Bar N Ranch, West Yellowstone | About 10 minutes from Yellowstone's West Entrance | Canvas tents, including Stargazer tents | Ensuite in most tent types; bathhouse with private rooms for Safari | May 19 to Sep 7, 2027 |
| Yellowstone Tipis | Gardiner | Minutes from Yellowstone's North Entrance | Tipis plus a vacation home | Assigned spa bathrooms outside the tipis | Check with the stay |
| The Resort at Paws Up | Greenough | About 35 minutes from downtown Missoula | Climate-controlled canvas tents in six camps | Ensuite with rain showers and heated floors | Mid-May to mid-October |
| The Ranch at Rock Creek | Philipsburg | 79 Carriage House Lane, Philipsburg | Glamping cabins and canvas tents | Two full baths in Sweet Grass; one bathroom in each creekside tent and family cabin | Trapper and Sweet Grass year-round; others: check with the stay |
Pick the Glacier side if most of your days will be spent in Glacier National Park. Both stays there sit a short drive from the west entrance. Under Canvas suits travelers who want a dedicated tent camp, and Moose Creek suits travelers who want a pod with its own kitchenette.
Pick the Yellowstone side if Yellowstone is the reason for the trip. West Yellowstone puts you by the park's West Entrance, and Gardiner puts you by the North Entrance, so choose the town on the side of the park you plan to explore first.
Pick a western Montana ranch if the stay itself is the trip. Paws Up includes a Camp Butler with every stay and gives each camp its own chef, and Ranch at Rock Creek runs a kids club.
Winter travelers and dog owners should read the table differently. If your dates fall in winter, the Trapper and Sweet Grass cabins at Ranch at Rock Creek are the only stays here open year-round. If you bring a dog, both Under Canvas camps welcome dogs for a small nightly fee, Rock Creek's Trapper cabin is pet-friendly, and Paws Up does not allow pets in its tents.
This answer would change if a Glacier-side or Yellowstone-side camp posted a winter season. Until then, Ranch at Rock Creek in Philipsburg is the off-season choice.
Glamping Near Glacier National Park
Under Canvas Glacier near Coram and the glamping pods at Moose Creek RV Resort in West Glacier both sit within a short drive of Glacier National Park's west entrance. They suit different travelers: one is a tent camp, and the other is a pod at an RV resort.
Under Canvas Glacier is about seven miles from the west entrance. Its canvas tents have wood-burning stoves. Deluxe and Suite tents have private ensuite bathrooms, while Safari tents share a bathhouse with private stalls.
The 2027 season at Under Canvas Glacier runs May 28 to September 13. Dogs are welcome for a small nightly fee, and tent options labeled 'with Kids Tent' are offered for families.
Moose Creek RV Resort is mainly a recreational vehicle (RV) resort, and its four glamping pods sit alongside bunk shelters, cabins, cottages, a farmhouse, B&B-style rooms and RV and tent sites. Each pod has a full-size bed, a kitchenette, a private bathroom, a deck, a grill and a fire pit. The resort sits about 4 miles from Glacier National Park and 2.5 miles from the West Entrance.
Ask Moose Creek about heat and air conditioning for the pods when you book. Moose Creek's 2026 season ran May 1 to October 7, and reservations for next year are open. Pets are allowed only at RV sites and not in cabins, lodging or other buildings, which rules out the pods for dog owners.
The two stays differ in what each unit includes. Under Canvas gives you a stove-heated tent, and Moose Creek gives you a kitchenette and grill. For trails, scenic drives and park logistics, the Glacier National Park guide covers the park itself.
Glamping on Montana's Yellowstone Side
Glamping on Montana's side of Yellowstone sits in two gateway towns: West Yellowstone, near the park's West Entrance, and Gardiner, near the North Entrance.
Under Canvas West Yellowstone is on the Bar N Ranch, about 10 minutes from the West Entrance. Old Faithful is about 32 miles past that entrance, roughly a 45-minute drive. The camp's 2027 season runs May 19 to September 7.
Tent capacities run from two to seven guests. Deluxe, Stargazer and Safari tents each sleep up to two, and the Stargazer tent has a night-sky viewing window above the bed. The Suite adds a lounge with a queen sofa-bed, and the Madison River Suite joins a Suite and a three-twin Safari tent on a connected deck.
Most tents are heated by a wood-burning stove with complimentary firewood; ask about heat in the Madison River Suite when you book. Deluxe, Stargazer, Suite, their kids versions and the Madison River Suite all have private ensuite bathrooms with a shower, sink and flushing toilet. Safari tents use a nearby bathhouse with private rooms.
The camp runs a restaurant with a seasonal, locally sourced menu, plus grab-and-go food and wine, beer and cocktails. Nightly campfires come with s'mores. Dogs are welcome for a small nightly fee.
Yellowstone Tipis, at 50 Jardine Road in Gardiner, offers tipi glamping minutes from the North Entrance, plus a vacation home called the Hawkeye Suite. Guests get assigned access to spa bathrooms, so the bathroom sits outside the tipi itself. Ask about season dates and tipi heating when you book.
Pick West Yellowstone if you want an ensuite bathroom, an on-site restaurant and published season dates. Pick Gardiner if the North Entrance fits your route and a bathroom outside the tipi does not bother you.
Ranch-Resort Glamping in Western Montana
Western Montana's ranch resorts, The Resort at Paws Up near Missoula and The Ranch at Rock Creek in Philipsburg, make the stay itself the trip.
The Resort at Paws Up is in Greenough, about 35 minutes from downtown Missoula and about 45 minutes from Missoula International Airport. The resort covers 37,000 acres with 10 miles of the Blackfoot River running through it.
Paws Up splits its glamping across six camps: Cliffside, Creekside, Moonlight, North Bank, Pinnacle and River. Cliffside, Creekside, Moonlight, Pinnacle and River each have six tented suites. The tents are climate-controlled canvas suites with one to three bedrooms, and each has an ensuite bathroom with a rain shower and heated floors.
Honeymoon tents at Cliffside and Pinnacle add copper soaking tubs. Every stay includes a Camp Butler, and each camp has its own Dining Pavilion and chef. Camps open from mid-May through mid-October.
Paws Up welcomes children of any age. Pets are not permitted in the tents and are allowed only in select homes. Paws Up holds a Two MICHELIN Key rating.
The Ranch at Rock Creek has 10 glamping cabins in four styles:
- Trapper: a hybrid canvas, wood and stone tent with in-floor hydronic heat and a gas stove; pet-friendly and open year-round.
- Sweet Grass: a three-room canvas cabin with two private full baths and both gas and wood-burning stoves; open year-round.
- Creekside glamping tents: Apache, Bull, Gila and Rainbow, each with one bathroom.
- Hybrid family glamping cabins: Cutbow, Grayling, Lake and Brook, each with one private bathroom.
Children can join Flint's Forest Rangers Kids Club during the stay. Choose Paws Up if you want a butler, a camp chef and a tent with heated floors. Choose Rock Creek if you want a cabin you can book in winter or a glamping unit that takes your dog.
Season, Heat and Bathrooms to Check Before You Book
Season, heat and bathroom type vary from one Montana glamping stay to the next, so compare all three before you pick a tent.
- Season: Both Under Canvas camps open in May and close in September. Paws Up runs mid-May to mid-October, and only Trapper and Sweet Grass at Ranch at Rock Creek are open year-round.
- Heat: Wood-burning stoves heat most Under Canvas tents. Paws Up tents are climate-controlled, and Rock Creek uses hydronic floors, gas stoves or wood stoves depending on the cabin. Ask Moose Creek and Yellowstone Tipis about heat before you book.
- Bathrooms: Under Canvas Deluxe and Suite tents, the Stargazer tent at West Yellowstone and Moose Creek pods have private bathrooms, and Paws Up tents have ensuite bathrooms. Under Canvas Safari tents use a bathhouse, and Yellowstone Tipis guests use assigned spa bathrooms.
- Pets: Both Under Canvas camps take dogs for a small nightly fee, and Rock Creek's Trapper cabin is pet-friendly. Paws Up tents and Moose Creek's buildings do not allow pets.
- Kids: Under Canvas offers 'with Kids Tent' options, Paws Up welcomes any age, and Rock Creek runs a kids club.
If you are weighing a canvas tent against a regular campsite, the glamping vs camping guide lays out what each one gives you. For what the nights feel like around the park by month, see Glacier National Park weather.
Dark Skies Over Montana Glamping Sites
Glacier National Park is part of Waterton-Glacier International Dark Sky Park, which earned provisional status in 2017 and full certification in 2021 as the first transboundary International Dark Sky Park. Under Canvas Glacier and Moose Creek both sit outside the park, a short drive from the west entrance.
Two Montana stays build stargazing into the stay. Under Canvas West Yellowstone's Stargazer tent has a night-sky viewing window above the bed, and Paws Up's Moonlight camp has a meadow for stargazing. For other certified night skies across the country, see the list of dark sky parks in the US.
At Dark Light Collection, we plan to open glass pyramids on private land within 15 minutes of Glacier's West Entrance in 2027. Each glass pyramid is designed with a king bed positioned for sky-gazing, a personal deck telescope and smart privacy glass that tints at a tap.
Pick your area from the comparison table, match its season to your travel dates, and then book the Montana glamping stay that fits your trip.
